Suppose We Held a Meeting and Nobody Came

March 20, 2008

by Tom O'Neill

The February meeting was very informative yet poorly attended.   The Baltimore Chapter has several hundred members; but, only a few stood up to serve on the board.

In order to get Snyder's (which is a nice location with good food) and to get the private banquet room we need to guarantee 25 people minimum.  The February meeting drew 12 people.  The speaker eats free, the students get discounted rates and the rest of those in attendance help pay for the room.  Last month those who attended all went home with an extra dinner we bought.  That was good news for those who came.  Unfortunately, the chapter lost over $450 by having a meeting.

We have been calling for more active members and more interest in the board.  We ask members to step up and tell us what topics would interest you.  So far no one is standing up and volunteering.  This year the Chapter is supposed to have an election of officers but it appears we are still having to draw from the same pool.  I for one am tired of doing the webpage and serving.  I have been doing this for too many years.

We need a new copy of a webpage software; however, I am recommending the Chapter not purchase it.  For the past 2 months this website has been done with a trial copy of Microsoft Expression.  The trial expires shortly.  If nobody wants to be webmaster the next page you see will be a simple page from our Internet Provider.   The homepage will state the Website is under construction to check back later.  Hopefully, one of you will show enough interest to keep the Website alive. It will be up to the membership to keep it alive.

I have enjoyed serving the Baltimore Chapter; however, it is time for me to step aside.  Good Luck.
